Presidents Golf Course – Par 70

Oct. 16th- Ryan Riley and Andrew Diramio shot a sizzling 61 in the 2nd Round to get into a playoff with Brian Higgins and Dan Falcucci, as both teams shot two round total scores of 129 in extremely windy conditions.  With darkness falling, Ryan and Andrew pulled off the comeback victory in a 3 hole playoff. 

Both teams parred the first with clutch putting.  Two birdies on the second and it was agreed that they could play one more hole as it would be virtually impossible to continue after that.  On the 3rd playoff hole (# 9), the players smashed tee shots down the fairway.  Headlights from cars illuminated the green as both Falcucci and Riley stuck their approach shots to six and two feet respectively.  Also putting for birdie, Mr. Diramio just missed a putt from 12 feet to seal the deal.  Then, Mr. Falcucci lined up a six footer, and lipped it out on the low side, setting the final drama for Ryan Riley to make his two footer.  Pretty much a tap in for players of their caliber, but add in darkness, headlights, a crowd of thirty to forty people, the title on the line and the fact that this was his FIFTH sudden death playoff of the year, this was no tap in!  However, Mr. Riley calmly knocked it home and take home the title.  The players shook hands and will have a lasting memory for years to come. 

Special Notes:

Thank you to all the players who played two rounds of golf on a course in outstanding shape.  Battling rain pretty much all week, Jim Fitzroy, Carl Miner and his crew did their usual outstanding job getting the course ready, particularly the bunkers.  Great job guys!!

This event would not be what it is without the dedicated volunteers.  Year in and year out, they spend their weekend starting the players off both tees, watching and finding wayward balls for 10 hours, or adding and writing numbers for 6 hours.  These people are a long standing part of the Presidents "family", the Norfolk County Classics, and they LOVE doing it.  THANK YOU ALL!

Thanks to The View Restaurant for their hospitality, keeping the players fed with Delicious food and keeping them "hydrated", especially after the round!!
