Norfolk County Classic……4’s are wild!
Matt Parziale wins his 4th Norfolk County Classic Title…
68-71=139 total is just enough for Matt to capture the title. Howling winds and slick greens provided quite the test on Sunday. There were a lot of players within reach of Bill Drohen’s opening 67…..and you could sense the weather would make it a close finish. The Par 3 18th hole provided plenty of drama down the stretch, as players struggled to hit the green in regulation…..and then couldn’t quite find a way to make Par. Matt has won all four of the Norfolk County Classics he has played in……simply awesome!!!
Brendan Monaghan captured his 4th Division 2 Title………
He fires a final round 75 to take it down……
The exception to that rule on getting it up and down on 18 was Division 2 defending Champion Kevin McGuire, who made a stunning up and down to get into a playoff with Brendan Monaghan…….who fired an impressive second round 75 to vault into the lead.
The two players teed it up on number 11……the first playoff hole, and Brendan made a routine par to get by Kevin’s bogey to win the Div. 2 title.
****Frank Vana captured the highly contested Senior title
****Mike Deady won the Division 1 Roger Barry Trophy for the Low Presidents Player…while Brendan Monaghan took Division 2 honors.

Presidents Golf Course opened July 8,1977; however our history as a golf course dates back to 1895 when the Wollaston Golf Club was founded. Golf tradition is deep and rich at this property….
Francis Ouimet used the course for his practice rounds prior to competing in the British Opens and Amateurs. He found the wind conditions and the wide variety of topography well suited for the preparation needed to compete overseas.
In the early 1970’s the members of the Wollaston Golf Club constructed their new championship course in Milton and with the aid of a grant from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation the County of Norfolk rebuilt the course. George and Tom Fazio were retained to redesign the course. The goal was to modernize it and accommodate public play. The course re-opened as the Presidents Golf Course at the Wollaston Recreational Facility.
Golf tradition continued with the instituting of the Norfolk County Classic in 1979. This 36 hole medal play tournament held in May traditionally attracts one of the top amateur fields in New England. Past winners include now touring pro James Driscoll, and State Open winner Fran Quinn, and State Amateur winner Steve Tasho.
The Presidents Golf Course is located 8 miles south of Boston, minutes off the Southeast Expressway. The entire course is situated on 93 acres and offers dramatic views of the Boston skyline, Neponset River, and the Blue Hills Reservation. The par 70 course features six par threes, testy par fours and the signature par 5 15th double dog leg par five. The wind, hilly terrain, and the influence of the Atlantic Ocean give the course a unique character that provides an excellent golfing experience.
